Now let me just say this to you and to everybody that is watching this DVD. Some people are going to be able to get flat in the water. Some people are going to…… the best they can do maybe hang something at this kind of angle. Everybody is a little bit different. Some people…… I am not sure if you guys can ever get flat because you both are a little bit towards the sprint side of the equation. You both are a little bit sprinters. And distant swimmers have a tendency of being able to lay flat in the water. And sprinters have an angle a little bit more. Alright, here we go.

Now we are going to do this. Relax, slowly over your head, in-plowed, then press your lungs into the water. OK, ready……relax. Slowly, bring your arms up, in-plowed. Ears are cut in half by the water. Now press your lungs into the water just a little bit and play with your posture. Oh, yes, Steven, look that angle improves. Good job Vivian, good job. That’s great, that’s great. Very very nice.

You see, just by using his lungs, Steven here is able to bring his hips towards the surface a little bit more than he was before. So his lungs and his arms are balancing tools first, and then they are propelling tools. Nice job. Vivian is getting a little better there. Nice job. This is a drill you can play with.        
你们看,仅仅通过运用肺部,Steven这边已经能够比原来更抬高臀部至水面一点点了。因此他的肺部和手臂首先是平衡工具,然后才是推进工具。很好,Vivian也比原来好了。做的很好,这个练习你们都可以试一下。

Slowly, slow motion. Bring your arms forward, over your head. Slow motion, slower, you want to be slow. You want to be slow so you feel what is going on with your body. Now notice that as they brought their arms toward the surface, their hips and back and legs got closer to the surface. So your arms swimming freestyle first are balancing tools before they are propelling tools. They are balancing tools. All right, Good, relax. Good job.

慢慢地,慢慢地动。把手向前举起来,超过头部。慢慢移动,慢点儿,你们要慢一点儿才能感受到身体发生什么变化。现在注意,当他们把手臂抬向水面,他们的臀部、后背和腿就渐渐靠近水面了。因此,游自由泳时你们的手臂首先是平衡工具,其次才是推进工具。他们是平衡工具。好的,很好,放松,做得好。

Bring your arms in, arms are straight, palms are on the bottom. And you squeeze your arms against your ears. OK. Remember the water is cutting your ears right in half, and you are looking straight down at the bottom. OK. So half of your head is in the water, half of your head is out of the water. Ready……relax. Now, what happened was, as you brought your arms up, and streamline over your head, your hips got closer to the surface, and your legs got closer to the surface. So now you don’t have to kick quite as hard in order to keep your legs and hips up. You can balance your legs and hips up.

现在看发生什么了?当你把手臂抬起来,在头前摆成流线姿势,你的臀部就更接近水平面了,你的腿也更接近水平面了。因此,你不用用力打腿来保持腿和臀部的高位,你就可以平衡腿和臀部。

Now this time the major tool in balancing your body in freestyle, to become a champion freestyler is to take your lungs and press them into the water. If I take an inner tube and push it down on one side, the other side comes up. While in your body, you take your lungs that is full of air, press them down, then your hips are going to come up towards the surface a little bit more.

要成为一个冠军泳者,在自由泳中平衡你身体的主要工具是你的肺部,把肺部在水中下压。如果我拿一个轮胎内胎,把一侧下压,另一侧就会抬起来。在你的身体内,你把充满空气的肺部下压,你的臀部就会抬起来更接近于水平面。

Now you don’t do that by taking your chest down like that. You just subtly, subtly press your lungs into the water and it raises your hips towards the surface a little bit more. So I want you to play with that.

你们不要把胸部象这样下压。你们应该只是隐约地把肺部往水里压,这样会稍微把你的臀部抬向水平面。我希望你们试试。
