In this simple drill, Brendan takes two extra kicks during extension. This makes the total number of kicks three, the regular kick during the regular timing, and then, while in extension, two additional kicks. The focus is really on reaching and riding the extension, and then the approach to the surface for the pull and the breath. At the start of the drill, which is after the pull and breath, Brendan will angle a bit deeper than typical. This is to get his body deeper than normal to allow for the focus. By the time the third kick is happening, the body has leveled off, and he can now focus on riding up for the pull and breath. Notice how this additional delay really allows him to also focus on drawing the hips forward, rather than tucking the legs up for the initiation of the kick. |
