This week’s Speedo Tip of the Week comes from Paul Stafford, co-founder and coach of the Terrapins Swim Team. Stafford offers swimmers advice on proper body alignment in breaststroke.

We use several vertical drills with all levels of our team. At the younger ages, we do vertical work regularly. With the more advanced or senior-level groups, we will use vertical work periodically during the season and as a “sharpening tool” when approaching season ending meets, as training becomes a bit more relaxed and specialty-focused.

Vertical drills include vertical kicking, vertical sculling, bobs and streamline blast offs. We use all vertical drills to emphasize body alignment and what we term “connectivity,” or generating power from the core. Another benefit of vertical work is the ability to communicate with the athlete as they are doing the drill to make any necessary adjustments or offer reminders and suggestions.
垂直练习包括垂直蹬腿,垂直划水,bobs(踩水的意思吗?)还有流线型火箭发射(就是保持流线型,从池底蹬上来)等。我们在所有的垂直练习中都强调身体的对齐,还有我们称之为“连通性”,或者说从身体产生力量。垂直练习的另一个好处就是,当运动员的动作需要调整的时候,或者教练需要提供建议的时候,教练可以和运动员都可以自由的交流(一般游泳练习头入水,教练和运动员很难沟通) |
