- One of the oldest drills out there
- Arms catch up at the front of the stroke
- Was thought to emphasise front quadrant style (two hands in front of the head at any one time)
Disadvantages
- Flattens your body rotation
- Risks swimmer over-emphasising the catch up when transferring into full stroke, introducing a distinct pause and introduces incorrect arm timing
Modern replacements
We recommend 6/1/6 and 6/3/6 as replacements since these emphasize correct body rotation to a much greater extent and help the swimmer set up for a great catch and pull through with correct rotation timing |
