Connor demonstrates how he uses the backstroke wedge. He positions it so that his toes are just above the surface of the water to keep his hips high when he draws up. Backstroke rules state you're not allowed to wrap the toes over the edge of the pool if you don't have the wedge. If you do have a wedge, you're not allowed to wrap your toes over the corner of the wedge. You can see that Connor's feet sit flush against the wedge, not wrapping it. Connor's direct line to the water keeps is body nearly horizontal to the surface. This is a great lesson for younger swimmers as they may use the wedge to go UP rather than to go OUT. |
