When I turn, I think about using my core and the arms to get the body around. You can lose so much energy in a turn, but a key to short-course swimming for 25 yards and 25 meters is carrying your momentum in and out of the turn. So it’s tucking the head. And it’s keeping the hips and the core all moving together in a nice tight ball. I try to push a lot of water with my hands. That definitely takes a lot less from your core if you’re using your arms to get yourself around.
