Clean up your (individual) stroke
If you’ve come across Swim Smooth before you’ll know that a key part of our philosophy is to focus on your individual needs as a swimmer. We’ve not all been swimming since age 5, and we’re not all two meters tall with the wingspan of an albatross. We’re swimming in different environments too, including open water.
We’ll get your swimming back on an upwards trajectory by focusing on what is truly holding you back as an individual. We call this ‘coaching the swimmer not the stroke’ - a major reason why our coaching is so effective.

Often male with a strong build and little background in swimming. Competitive driven people who have an athletic background on land, often in team sports or the gym.
Lean muscle mass and limited flexibility gives them very sinky legs when swimming. If we can raise their legs up they stand to make big strides forward and tap into that athletic prowess.
Typical speed range: 2:30 to 1:55 / 100m but can sprint significantly faster.
Other notes: Finds swimming frustrating, much faster with a pull buoy or wetsuit, a strong tendency to go out too hard and blow-up, crossovers and scissor kicks are common. Female ‘Arnette’ is less overtly muscular but equally athletic!

Many swimmers are frustrated that the coaching advice they have received has not helped their swimming. Despite their hard work, their swimming speed and efficiency hasn't improved as much as they would like. To get you off that plateau we need to identify something called your Swim Type, which we’ll do now. We will then configure the coaching system to give you highly accurate, targeted coaching to improve your individual swimming, whatever level you are at.
You might already know your Swim Type but if not watch the following short video clips and read the mini-profiles to discover yours. If one of the types really doesn’t jump out at you then select "I don’t know my type" and we’ll revisit this later. You’ll still be able to access all our great content!
