(First, even though Michael takes his breath low to the water with minimal chin lift, his head does rise slightly while taking his breath. This small adjustment gives him more leverage keeping his extrememly long torso in a proper posture. When he takes a non-breathing stroke, his hip tends to sink and he has to (fly) even higher on the next breathing stroke. Secondly, his rhythmic breathing alows for steady air flow and make each stroke cycle identical allowing for more efficient action and less wasted motion.)
